Comment: We are sorry to relay the news that our classmate Eckart Wallisch passed on July 31, 2022

Eckart attended the University of Colorado at Denver for his MA, and then went to work towards his PhD at the University of Colorado at Boulder. When Eckart returned to Ohio, he was hired by the University of Cincinnati as Director of CDC Mental Health services. After 32 years Eckart retired as the Clinical Director from CDC Mental Health Services.

Eckart had three areas of expertise. He did testing and diagnostics with children. His second responsibility at the clinic was as an expert medical witness for the State of Ohio. His third main responsibility was working with Developmentally Delayed adults that lived independently in their own homes. He loved his work with children and the DD population.

Eckhart and Joanne were married for 50 years. They have three children. Gretchen works in International Development. Andy is an Industrial Designer and Anthony works in Public Health and Social Service. They also have two grandchildren. Joanne was an Interior Designer (IDS) for 42 years before retiring.

Comment: (very) Long story short… After GBN I moved to the East coast for 14 years (college, med school, residency, research fellowship). Janice and I met in Boston, and we have been married for 45 years; 2 great kids, 3 grandchildren. We moved to St. Louis in 1981 for what turned out to be a dream job in academic medicine at Washington University. I am an infectious diseases physician (no longer seeing patients) and a medical researcher (now 100%). Most of my research has focused on tropical diseases (elephantiasis and “river blindness”) that are caused by small parasitic worms that are transmitted by biting insects (relatives of dog heartworms). My wonderful team conducts basic (lab) research on parasite biology, develops new tools for diagnosis and treatment, and plans/conducts extensive field studies in Asia and Africa. The field research is generously supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (see www.dolf.wustl.edu). This work is a small part of broadly based effort to eliminate these diseases so I can retire. I will be happy to tell you more about this story if you buy me a glass of wine in Santa Fe.

Comment: Have been happily married for 33 years to my wife, Cynthia. We retired this past year to our cabin in Crestone, Colorado in the Sangre de Cristo moutains at 8,000 feet.  It is a very beautiful and peaceful small mountain community which has been ideal for retirement.



Previously we had lived in Boulder for 17 years after relocating from Libertyville. Boulder was where I had completed my education at CU in 1971 and was also convenient for my job in candy sales covering the west and beyond.



We took the opportunity each year to travel and have been many times to China (Honeymooned in Hong Kong in 1984 during our first trip),India and Thailand. We also saw Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Nepal in the Orient. Additionally we traveled throughout much of Europe including Greece and the Greek Islands, Egypt,  Italy (also Sardinia and Corsica), Turkey, Austria, Germany, France, Monaco, the Netherlands and Scotland.



It has been refreshing this past year to spend most of our time here in Southwestern Colorado without any plane trips.



Looking forward to seeing all at our upcoming reunion in Santa Fe.
