Comment: Hi ya'll (What can I say, I've lived in the south for over 40 years.)

It's been a long time since high school - where to begin?

OK here goes. After Glenbrook North, I attended the University of Colorado and received a BS in nursing. The Navy helped pay for my college education so, I owed them 3 years. They sent me to San Diego Naval Regional Medical Center where I started working in orthopedics. After about a year, I was selected for and completed the Navy's first nurse practitioner program. As a nurse practitioner, I worked in the clinics and ER until the Navy decided to send me on an "adventure". I received a phone call that said "Be ready to leave for Guam tonight." and off I went. The assignment was to work with the Vietnamese refugees who were "getting out of Dodge" so to speak. While in Guam, I met Charles (Chuck) Ontiveros who was in charge of the Army's immunization team for the refugees. We worked together day and night meeting ships and planes over flowing with refugees needing immunizations. Looking back at the experience, it sometimes reminds me of some of the TV episodes of MASH.

Once I completed my commitment to the Navy I was off to the University of Washington in Seattle for graduate school and received an MA in nursing.

In 1976, I married Chuck, who I had met in Guam, and moved to Clarksville, TN where he was stationed at Ft. Campbell. While in Tennessee our two children, Sean and Kimberly, were Born. In Tennessee, my nursing career expanded to include: teaching in the BS nursing program at Austin Peay State University, working as assistant director of health promotion and disease control for the Tennessee Department of Health (TDOH), being director of the TDOH's school nurse program and starting and directing the TDOH's child care health consultant program. In 2003 I retired from the TDOH and a career which I found very rewarding.

After retirement, Chuck and I moved to New Bern, NC which is a great place to visit and a fantastic place to retire. Retirement is great and I sometimes wonder how I ever had time to work.  Chuck and I enjoy spending time with our four grandchildren (ages 5 to 17) as well as traveling both in the states and abroad. Other activities that keep me busy are: gardening, Zumba, Tai Chi and volunteer work at church and in the community.

There are many stories woven into the past 50 years but they will have to wait until the reunion in Santa Fe. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and getting to know other classmates better.
