After GBN I headed to Purdue University and graduated with a degree in Landscape Architecture. The good people of Purdue are mystified by the fact that I cannot follow a football game, but can identify most of the plants I see in the landscape. I then headed to Boulder Colorado where I worked for a small design/ build firm and held a number of non-professional occupations including the full range of kitchen jobs in a vegetarian restaurant, hole digging and tree planting, and mint crop processing for Celestial Seasonings Tea Company. Eventually I settled into a great job as a parks planner for the City of Boulder and retired from this job a number of years ago. I discovered my preferred lifestyle when I moved to Colorado and swapped out my dresses, hose, and heels for hiking boots, jeans, and down coats. Thus attired, I have enjoyed hiking, biking, boating, camping, and exploring the amazing natural environments of the Rockies and beyond to the southwest deserts. I met Steve, my partner, while bicycling in the Baja in the 90's. Over the years, we have travelled, often slowly and on our bikes, through a number of countries, including Mexico, Morocco, Turkey, India, and Sri Lanka. I am a big fan for the benefits of travel, meeting and experiencing different cultures. To continue my life long love of plants and gardening, I have a very small gardening business in the summer months, saving spring, winter, and fall for other projects and travel. While it would be easy to keep this bio completely upbeat, I have experienced the heart wrenching losses and difficult times that I suspect all of us have experienced by now at age 67. Yet, here we are gathering together after so many years. Hopefully I'll get to re meet some of you in Santa Fe. Kate |

Quit alcohol and all other drugs when 27 y.o. Son= Ben (pictured) 21. B.H.S. in Alcoholism Sciences, M.S.W. in clinical social work, Jane Addams College of Social Work, University of Illinois. Retired from VA where I worked as Clinical Social Worker in Mental Health Division, Milwaukee VA Hospital. Still working in private clinical practice 2 days a week - EastLake Counseling and Consulting in Milwaukee, Partner and Psychotherapist. Love my patients and work and hope to continue indefinitely. Still love participating and competing in sports. Play basketball twice a week, triathlons (swimming, biking, running), golf, cross-country skiing, hiking. Ben is a student at Santa Monica College, CA. Love visiting him and going for runs with him along the ocean. Karin and I make regular trips to Door County, Wisconsin to trail run and hike the trails on Land Trusts scattered across the peninsula. She is a terrific athlete and runs trails, swims, bikes, and hikes with me whereever we go. I love Wisconsin and being outside all year long. Livin' the dream. |
