Comment:
I have made Colorado my home since venturing out in '67 to attend the University of Colorado, where I graduated with a BFA in Drawing and Painting in 1971. Returned to get my art education certification and enjoyed teaching (and learning from) students of all ages in the Boulder Public schools and my home studio. Worked for a graphic designer for a few years in the 80s, then had my own business as a handmade greeting card and handpainted clothing designer, while continuing to teach art. In the mid 2000s I committed to focus on my lifelong love, color, training as an architectural color consultant, which still keeps me busy and I enjoy enormously. I've worked on residential, commercial and public/historic projects. (www.colorworks7.com) I still enjoy painting, drawing, collage and mixed media art. I've lived in Lyons, CO since moving from Boulder in 1998 and have fallen in love with this small (2000 population in the town proper; another 2500 in surrounding foothills) but active community. Known for its art and outdoor events and music venues, notably Planet Bluegrass, which hosts the annual RockyGrass and Folks Fest music festivals. Like mini-Woodstocks. We experienced a devastating flood in September 2013. Our infrastructure was ruined; the town was virtually closed for several months and we are still in the recovery process. The bumper sticker on my Outback says "Lyons, CO. We've Got Grit". I've been active especially in community arts, completing the Lyons Mural Project (now gracing the Visitor Center) in 2003 and most recently dedicating the Lyons Clarifier Community Mosaic (www.clarifierproject.net) in fall of 2015. (Still working on finishing details, landscaping.) Lyons is a little slice of paradise, surrounded by open space; only 30 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. I've enjoyed so many hours hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and more recently paddleboarding, in our beautiful surroundings. Still exploring, trying to learn all about the native plants and birds. I also take photos (and occasionally write) for our great little Lyons monthly newspaper, the Redstone Review (www.issuu.com/sdcmc). Last saw many of you at the 40th reunion. Looking forward to catching up and celebrating life on this planet in gorgeous, magical Santa Fe. Cathy (Krupp) Rivers |
