Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Retired School Administrator
Comment: I left Glenbrook and headed off to SMU, then 2 years later transferred to Northwestern. I graduated there a bit early and was lucky to get a teaching job in January. I loved my little first graders and enjoyed every minute of teaching. After a while I missed going to school and decided to get a Masters in educational administration in hopes of impacting more students. I finished the Masters in 1975 and that summer was made the Principal of the school where I had been teaching. By 1983 I had completed my Doctorate. I was a consultant in education until 1999.

We have two sons and have spent many hours at hockey games and wrestling matches cheering them on. They both are now working in Neil’s businesses.

Over the years I’ve been a YMCA Board member, a founding member of the Naperville Education Foundation, active in our Church’s education programs, Sunday school, vacation bible school, confirmation classes, and adult education programs.

In 2013 I had an accident that crushed two vertebrae in my back, but fortunately have recovered to almost 100%. I am currently working out daily to strengthen my back. I golf, scuba dive, read, play mahjongg, but sadly no longer ski after ACL surgery.

I’m thrilled about our 2017 reunion plans in Santa Fe. I hope we will see many of you there!

Comment: From Neil:

I met Ginny Wahlen at our 10-year reunion, fell in love and

somehow convinced her to marry me! We have had 39 wonderful years

together, and she keeps me around. We have 2 sons, both of whom are in

the auto business with me running our 7 dealerships.

I am fortunate to be healthy enough to travel and be physically active.

I say "fortunate" because 2 years after our last reunion I survived a

massive heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery. I still am able to

enjoy golf, boating, skiing, shooting, fishing, scuba and horseback riding.

One of our passions is a wonderful little daycare center called Casa de

Luz that Ginny and I founded and built with my sister in the slums of

Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Santa Fe is a great town, I look forward to seeing you all there!

Since Santa Fe, things have been mostly good for the Gerald family. 2021 was a banner year as our first grandchild, Neil Michael Gerald, was delivered in April! And then in July, we gained a daughter when our son Matt was married at our farm. The years since Santa Fe have been good for business as we have purchased 5 more dealerships since then for a total of 12. The only sad downside for me and our family is that our Ginny is not in good health.

2022-24. May 29, 2022 I lost my Ginny. Very sad, but a blessing too. Since then I have been blessed with 2 more grandchildren: in addition to Neil Michael, we now have June Joanne and Joseph Robert. Of course they are wonderful!

I have taken a back seat in the business and my sons are running our dealerships which now number 14.

Although I have had two major surgeries in the last year, they were without complications and my health is great! Looking forward to lots more travel and golf!

And, looking forward to our 75th BD party in Lake Geneva. So far a good group has signing up...should be fun to see you all!

Comment: Where to begin?  The last reunion I attented was our 30th  We sadly missed the 40th  Very excited to catch up on the last 20 years, for sure!  A quick recap since high school:  Ray and I married in 1970.  We have two children.  Brett is 44, yikes, and Megan who is 41.  We have 3 grandsons ages 14,13, and 11. Prior to our 30 yr reunion I worked in the restaurant/hospitality industry managing various restaurants.  I was an independent contracter on two occasions in assisting in hiring and training and starting up two new restaurant establishments. I also worked for Hilton Hotels as a director of sales before dabbling in real estate for a few years. Just prior to our 30th reunion Ray and I relocated to Kansas City.  We have been here for 20!  Shortlly after moving to Kansas City I was introduced to developers who were converting old warehouses into residential lofts.  At the same time were revitalizing this warehouse district/River Market into sustainable exciting neighborhood,  Kansas City's Farmers Market has been in the center of this district, which sits on the Missouri River. It was an exciting time and I was blessed to become a part of this fun, if not challenging project. Four years later we had converted four warehouses creating 300 residential lofts.  The neighborhood became a vibrant urban place to live.  Most of the residents were from all over the country relocating to kansas city for various reasons. Ray joined me after a short time to head up the maintenence dept for the company.  We joked that we became an Ethel and Fred Mertz team.  It was great fun and of course we lived in three different lofts throughout that time.  Everytime a new warehouse opened I would find a loft I liked even better than the last.  Ray was pleased when the process was complete.  He got a bit tired of moving.  When that "gig" was over I dabbled in interior design, something I always had a passion for.  Ending up as a designer for Ethan Allen and later moving on to a very popular interior design store in the Midwest, Nell Hills owned by Mary Carol Garrity.  It was an honor to work as one of her designers and a great experience.  In 2010 I had my first knee replacement following the second replacement in 2016  In between replacements I worked for myself and kept busy assisting previous clients when working at the stores and then receiving referrals.  It was difficult for me to stand all day as was necessary when designing for a retail establishment  This allowed me keep my hand in the design business!  Neil was bugging me to get my profile up, lol.  Be careful what you ask for, I think I just wrote a novel.  Ray still puts up with me, gratefully!!  I love him a ton  See you in Santa Fe
